Artwave Festival 2009

Ride the Wave and Get the Vibe – It’s Artwave 2009!

Preparations are under way and excitement is building as artists and makers are busy creating inspirational and engaging pieces of art to exhibit as part of the annual Lewes District Open House Festival - Artwave 2009

Running from Saturday 29th August until Sunday 13th September, Artwave 2009 showcases creative works by local artists, offering visitors the chance to buy pieces direct from the artists and makers often from their own homes or studios.

This year, the Artwave Open Houses cover the breadth of Lewes District, including venues in Ditchling, Firle, and Chailey, as well as the larger towns of Seaford, Newhaven and Lewes. Often set in stunning surroundings, the Open Houses offer visitors a stimulating and creative experience away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Organised by Lewes District Council’s Tourism & Economic Development Team, Artwave 2009 has not only encouraged an increasing number of artists to take part, but has also introduced local residents and visitors to stimulating and new experiences, right on their doorstep.

Artwave co-ordinator Angie Osborne said,

“I am both excited and delighted with the build up to Artwave this year. We are extremely fortunate to have so many talented artists in and around this area and they all offer a wide range of art mediums. Artwave 2009 is set to inspire and to celebrate anyone already involved, or wanting to take part, in the visual arts”

If you’d like to get involved, it’s not too late. A competition is running called 'The Gods in the Landscape', in conjunction with the Sussex Bards, Druids & Ovates. Anyone can create a piece of visual art, based on the title theme, and an exhibition will be opened at the Crypt Gallery, Seaford in September. A winner will be chosen from the submissions and the artist awarded with £100.

The official brochures are being circulated at the beginning of August. Simply pop into Lewes or Seaford tourist information centre to pick up a copy, or telephone the Artwave office direct on 01273 484497, email artwave@lewes.gov.uk, or visit our website www.artwavefestival.org
